He's a ROCKER
............................................................. ......Phil Lynott
...................................................................1949 - 1986
20 years ago, last thursday, saw the death of legendary bassist Phil Lynott. He was most famous for recording the longest known anal fanfare which lasted a staggering five hours. At the time he was quoted as saying,
'bloody hell I might've followed through on that one.'
Having quit the band he had formed; Legs & Co, Phil launched his solo career with this recording. Those in the business thought it risky but Phil was sure the public would lap up his five disc epic-anulus. Phil was right and 'The sound of brown noise' enjoyed ten weeks at the top of the album charts.
John Peel described the work as 'bold, brassy and full of emotive Jazz-like passages. No home should be without this.'
Gary Moore told us, 'I wept with joy when I heard Brown noise. It's what inspired me to write Out in the Fields and act like a daft cunt throughout the eighties.'
Phil Lynott was also married to Leslie Crowther and held the Craziest Afro in Showbiz award from 1974 to 1981.
God bless him.
